Message from the Chair of the Board – Aug 2011
Trustees and other supporters of the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust (CNMT) carry out a number of projects and activities to ensure the day-to-day operation and long-term preservation of HMCS SACKVILLE.
The Board of Directors of CNMT has approved a National Design Competition as the first phase of the long-term (2011-2015) Canadian Naval Memorial Project. This includes an iconic Naval Memorial Hall with an enclosed year round salt water berth for SACKVILLE to be located near her current summer berth. An adjacent Naval Heritage Centre is also part of the Naval Memorial Project.
During the summer the ship’s crew welcomes thousands of visitors at her berth next to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
Throughout the year the ship supports numerous activities, including briefings for serving members, cadet corps and school tours, community, veterans and corporate meetings/functions.
Ship maintenance is on going with much of the work done by Trustees with technical and other support provided by ships’ crews, HMC Dockyard staff and corporate partners.
